A Little About Aiea

Once an ahupua’a, or a division of land ruled by a native Hawaiian chief, the small town of Aiea is located in the City and County of Honolulu and borders Pearl City to the east.  Opportunities abound in Aiea and within its surrounding towns.  For prospective movers to the town, residential areas have a wide range of living quarters to choose from to ensure satisfaction.  Apartment complexes, condominiums, and houses of all sizes give prospective Aiea residents a wide range of options to choose from that will suit personal preferences or budget.  The Juliana Towers Apartments and the Pearlridge Gardens and Tower are just some of the apartment-style living options available for rent, while families who prefer to live in condominiums can choose complexes from a number of areas, including Aiea Heights, Pearlridge, or in the nearby community of Halawa.

In addition to offering current residents an excellent and convenient location to live and prospective tenants an assortment of different living arrangements to fit any preference, Aiea is located near excellent shopping like Pearlridge Center, Oahu’s second largest mall after the Ala Moana Center in Waikiki.   With hundreds of stores, a number of different eateries and restaurants, and a multitude of services, Pearlridge Center will guarantee any resident or guest a wonderful shopping experience.  In addition, the mall boasts Hawaii’s only monorail system, the Skycab, which transports shoppers for a small fee between the two complexes that make up the mall, called “Uptown” and “Downtown.”   The mall even overlooks another Hawaiian landmark, the Sumida Farm, Hawaii’s largest watercress farm.  For tourists, the best bargains on souvenir shopping await at the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet.  With over seven hundred vendors lined up in endless rows of the parking lot of the Aloha Stadium three days a week, shoppers can pick out gifts and souvenirs for the entire family at unbelievably low prices.  Hawaiian handmade gifts, clothes, local snacks, and other goods are just some of the treasures waiting to be purchased at Hawaii’s largest flea market. Public educational opportunities in the Aiea area are overseen by the Hawaii Department of Education.  Elementary schools within the town include Aiea, Alvah A. Scott, and Gus Webling Elementary Schools.  However, Pearl Ridge and Waimalu Elementary Schools are also options available in the nearby town of Waimalu.  An intermediate school, Aiea Intermediate, and Aiea High School are also conveniently located in the greater Aiea area.  For families opting for a private school option, there is Our Savior Lutheran School.  The Aiea Post Office is also conveniently located in the area for all mailing and shipping needs. 

The number of attractions in the area is another characteristic of Aiea that draws both visitors and tourists to the town.  Aloha Stadium, the home of the University of Hawai’i Warriors football team, is located in Aiea.  In addition, the town is in close proximity to Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial, Hawaii’s famous historic monument built above the sunken battle ship where nearly two thousand casualties died on December 7, 1941 when Japanese Naval Forces launched an attack.  Visitors can pay homage to the soldiers and their sacrifice at the monument after a short boat ride.  In addition to attractions, Aiea has a host of recreational activities.  Aiea Bowl, Keaiwa Heiau State Park, Consolidated Theatres in the Pearlridge Center, and Jungle River Mini Golf are only some of the locations available that guarantee relaxation or fun with the entire family. Golf courses, like the Pearl Country Club, are just short drives away from Aiea. The excellent shopping, surplus of attractions and recreational activities, and just a short drive away from Honolulu make Aiea an ideal place to reside or to visit.
