A Little About Poipu

 Poipu is a small resort community on the south shore of Kauai. Poipu has a population of just over one thousand permanent residents, although tens of thousands more individuals visit the town every year. Poipu’s name literally translates to mean “crashing waves,” a tribute to the great beach and shoreline in the Poipu region. Poipu covers a total area of just less than three square miles, and is a generally upscale residential enclave. Among tourist accommodations, there are a wide variety of choices, including luxurious, all inclusive resorts and smaller bed and breakfasts. Permanent residences range from beachfront mansions and large condominiums to single family homes and apartments. Poipu has some of the best beaches in the state of Hawaii, including some ranked as the best in the United States of America. Poipu Beach Park is a top attraction for the entire family, offering everything from picnicking and sunbathing to swimming and surfing.

Nearby Naukumoi Point is a great spot for snorkeling, boasting a wide variety of colorful fish species. There are two eighteen hole golf courses in the Poipu area, as well as an impressive range of shopping opportunities and a central commercial centers. Poipu is also home to several different dining options, ranging from fast food to upscale restaurants. There are plenty of outdoor things to do in Poipu that are not directly related to the ocean as well, such as ATV touring, mountain biking, horseback riding, and helicopter touring. Deep sea fishing is perpetually popular along the Poipu coastline, as are hiking and tennis. One of Poipu’s resorts is home to the Moir Gardens, a botanical garden showcasing some of the island’s most beautiful and rare plant life.
