A Little About Kalaheo
Kalaheo is a scenic residential community found slightly inland from the Pacific Ocean. Kalaheo is located on the southern shore of the Garden Island, and is a part of Kauai County. Kalaheo has a population of about four thousand residents, and covers a total area of about three square miles. Kalaheo is a fairly diverse community, although Kalaheo has a higher median income than the rest of the island. Kalaheo has grown quite rapidly in the last few years along with the rest of the Garden Island. Although the island of Kauai is more untouched than the rest of the Aloha State, the residential suburbs around the population hubs of Lihue and Kapaa have recently added thousands of residents. Much of Kalaheo’s historical legacy was defined by businessman Walter McBryde, a sugar plantation executive who established a Japanese garden in the community of Kalaheo. Kalaheo’s best known recreational destination is the Kukuiolono Park and Golf Course, a scenic beginner’s course just a few miles from the coast of the Pacific Ocean.
Kalaheo’s modern economy is driven primarily by the tourist industry and coffee cultivation. The largest coffee business in Kalaheo is the Kalaheo Café and Coffee Company, which is found on Kaumualii Highway. Kalaheo is home to the Olu Pua Gardens and Plantation, which features some of the most beautiful tropical plants on the Garden Island. Kalaheo is just a short distance from Inuoloue Reservoir and Alexanders Lake, which are great locations for fishing, sunbathing, and sightseeing. Of course, Kalaheo is in close proximity to a number of beaches, as well as a variety of great hiking spots. Kalaheo also boasts a number of small shops and restaurants in addition to a shopping center and a post office.
