A Little About Princeville

Princeville is a popular resort community on the north shore of the Garden Island. Princeville is a part of Kauai County, covering a total area of about two square miles of land and about a third of a square mile of water. Princeville has a population of about one thousand seven hundred residents, but thousands more individuals visit the community as tourists every month. Princeville is named after Prince Albert Kamehameha, who visited the area in the mid nineteenth century. The land which is now considered Princeville, like many other parts of Kauai, was originally a plantation (cultivating coffee), and later became a cattle ranch. More recently, developers recognized the amazing scenic value of the Princeville area, and built a resort and golf course in 1968. Most of the residential properties in Princeville are either tourist-oriented hotels or condominiums, both of which offer world class recreational facilities and great views of the ocean and mountains.

There is a small airport near Princeville, as well as an impressive selection of spas, art galleries, and restaurants. Princeville Shopping Center is the primary shopping destination for the Princeville area, although there many smaller boutique shops and local stores just a short drive away. Princeville is home to some of the best beaches on the north shore of Kauai, including the Hideaways and Pu’u Poa Beach. Princeville is situated just a short drive away from some of the most striking scenic destinations in the state, including Hanalei Bay and Waimea Canyon. Although it is impossible to access the picturesque and virtually untouched Na Pali Coast by road, a helicopter or coastal tour of the area is an amazing visual experience.
