Bordering historic Pearl Harbor on the north is the large town of Pearl City on the island of Oahu. A host of different attractions, shopping, and recreational activities await prospective residents and visitors at this bustling town. Educational opportunities in the Pearl City area are overseen by the Hawaii Department of Education, which covers the public, elementary, intermediate and high school levels. Some elementary schools, like Pearl City Elementary and Manana Elementary, and an intermediate school, Highlands Intermediate, are located within the greater Pearl City Area. Other institutions, like Momilani and Waiau Elementary Schools and Pearl City High School, are located in the adjacent community of Waimalu. The town takes pride in its baseball team, the Pearl City Little League District Seven, which won the Junior League World Series after defeating the international champion with a game of 6-2. Pearl City is an epicenter for great shopping and a number of recreational activities.
The Pearl Highlands Shopping Center, conveniently located between a Wal-Mart and a Home Depot, is sure to provide every guest with an excellent and convenient shopping experience. A Ross Dress for Less and a Price Busters will guarantee its shoppers unbelievable bargains. In addition, there is a movie theatre, a 24-Hour Fitness, and a Sam’s Club, which are only some of the shops and services available at the Pearl Highlands Shopping Center. The town is in close proximity to a number of attractions, including the USS Arizona Memorial, built over the sunken USS Arizona. It is the resting place of nearly two thousand crewmen who died on the infamous day of December 7, 1941 when Japanese Naval Forces bombed the area. The Memorial is open seven days a week with a program that consists of a twenty three minute film on Pearl Harbor’s history. Afterward, visitors are welcomed to board a boat trip to the Memorial where they can pay tribute to the men who died there. In addition, Pearl City’s close proximity to Aiea gives residents and guests easy access to the Pearlridge Center, Hawaii’s second largest shopping complex after the Ala Moana Center in Waikiki. The mall overlooks the Sumida Farm, Hawaii’s largest watercress farm, and the USS Arizona Memorial. The mall offers its guests more than 200 stores and a number of eateries and restaurants, within the mall itself and in the surrounding area. Pearlridge also boasts the Skycab, Hawaii’s only monorail system that transports shoppers, for a small fee, between the two complexes of the mall, called “Uptown” and “Downtown.” Additional opportunities for great shopping are located in the nearby town of Waipahu, which borders Pearl City to the west. A visit to the Waikele Premium Outlets has great deals on the best designer brands, which include the Coach Factory, Juicy Couture, Converse, Calvin Klein, and Michael Kors.
Golfers can try their hands at the Pearl Country Club, which overlooks Pearl Harbor. The lush and varied terrains surrounded by trees are open to the general public year round.
